The Case of the Uninvited Guest (John Darnell, #5)

Sam McCarver
4.9/5 (34986 ratings)
Description:Author CommentsMy books about John and Penny Darnell are fiction, and I hope entertaining mysteries, for your reading. Although they are set in important periods of history, they are not intended to be pure historical accounts, but instead good stories with a foundation in circumstances typical of the era. I call them "history-mysteries," but don't expect a history lesson. These are historically-based mystery stories. John Darnell faces difficult situations as he debunks supposed paranormal occurrences and solves murders and other crimes that tend to surround them, and Penny, his wife, is there with him, sometimes in danger, sometimes assisting in the solutions, as she did in the previous mystery, "The Case of The Ripper's Revenge." The story in this new book takes place at the end of World War I in December, 1918, John has been hired to explain ghostly appearances frightening guests at the luxurious Le Grand Hotel in Paris, following a murder in the hotel, a prelude to others that begin to occur A very young wounded soldier and journalist, Ernest Hemingway, checks in to Le Grand and finds a lovely young silent film star already there. Hemingway helps Darnell but is mostly interested in getting a story for his paper as he prepares to return to America, and in Mary Miles Minter, the actress. Meanwhile, John Darnell explains the ghostly apparition and solves the murders. About the Author: I'm a history buff and apply my interest in history and my long-term fascination with and enjoyment of mysteries in constructing my historical mystery stories. I incorporate real people of the era in my books, and in reading them you'll find the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in "The Case of The 2nd Seance;"--Agatha Miller Christie and others in "The Case of Compartment 7;" set on the Orient Express--playwright George Bernard Shaw in "The Case of The Ripper's Revenge;"--young Ernest Hemingway in "The Case of The Uninvited Guest;" and, in the first book of the series, "The Case of Cabin 13," not only the richest man in America, John Jacob Astor IV, as well as his young wife Madeleine who becomes closely acquainted with Penny. Also, we see Chairman Bruce Ismay and Captain E.J. Smith of the Titanic, along with famous hero Second Officer Herbert Lightoller and the crows' nest lookouts, Fred Fleet and Reggie Lee, and other famous people. Events on the rescue ship, the Carpathia, seldom seen in Titanic fictional accounts, form an important part of this story. I hope you enjoy these tales of the way things might have been, early in the last century, with people who lived through the times, and perhaps with the events--and with my continuing characters, John and Penny Darnell. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
