Description:This is Tom Miller (aka Thos. Kent Miller), the author of ALLAN QUATERMAIN AT THE DAWN OF TIME. This novel took many years to write and design, and is intended to be viewed as well as read. As I wrote the book, my goal was to entertain . . . and hopefully to give pause. It was not my goal to write a “thrilling page turner”; instead I wrote a literary delicacy for a particular kind of reader—those readers who are happiest (whose souls resonate) when encountering such concepts as I list here (to name a few): • Victorian ghost stories and their place in both popular fiction and literature.• Robert E. Howard—the man and creative artist (not merely the creator of Conan).• The pulp magazine era and one of its most creative and prolific contributors—E. Hoffmann Price.• The history and origin of “Sherlock Holmes pastiches.”• A pastiche that is essentially a sequel to Jules Verne’s FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON and A TRIP AROUND THE MOON as well as, at the same time being a pastiche and sequel to H. Rider Haggard’s Allan Quatermain adventure, THE TREASURE OF THE LAKE.• A pastiche of Howard’s swash-buckling stories featuring strong-willed, barely-clad women warriors. • Real-life 19th century scientists Maria Mitchell and James Clerk Maxwell.• Continental drift and plate tectonics.• A close up of Quatermain’s sidekick or aide-de-camp, Hans the Hottentot, who appeared in six of the adventures.• A meditation on the nature of Fate, coincidence, and happenings beyond our ken.• Cosmology, the Big Bang, the formation of the Universe, and cosmic background radiation.• Titanic engineering projects, such as the Manhattan Project.Neil, a reviewer on Goodreads.com declared my previous novel (THE GREAT DETECTIVE AT THE CRUCIBLE OF LIFE or expanded as ALLAN QUATERMAIN ATHE THE CRUCIBEL OF LIFE) was mere “fan fiction” and gave it two stars. I suppose he’s right and that he would judge DAWN OF TIME similarly. Essentially, I wrote this book for readers who might be knowledgeable about, relish, or be curious about some or all of the notions listed above. The very nice HARDCOVER WITH DUST JACKET (ISBN-13: 978-0944872536) is now available at LULU.COM ( http://www.lulu.com/shop/thos-kent-mi... ) for $29.74, as well as at all AMAZON shops and all other book distributors worldwide. The exciting PDF E-BOOK, which duplicates every page as intended, is available only at LULU.COM ( http://www.lulu.com/shop/thos-kent-mi... ) for $1.99 for now.The PERFECT and PROPERLY PRINTED TRADE PAPERBACK is available ONLY at LULU.COM ( http://www.lulu.com/shop/thos-kent-mi... ) for $14.99. Indeed, the design of the book and the flow of the text work hand in hand to create a thoughtful impression. Eschewing a “plot” in the ordinary sense, this book can, nonetheless, be described as a quest for the Star of Bethlehem. It knits together unearthed oral memoirs, newspaper clippings, and myriad letters and journal pages from across two millennia, interspersed with the author’s own ironic observations. These documents are presented in a series of footnotes, prefaces, introductions, forewords, and afterwords that (with tongue firmly in cheek) challenge the structure of the conventional novel, while flirting with a number of genres. If you like this sort of thing, you may find it “incredible” and “truly stunning” as did genre authority Gary Lovisi. In fact, here is Gary's full comment: "This is a pretty incredible book, I can't believe how much material and research was put into it, truly stunning, a massive undertaking.
