Description:This is a collection of short stories mostly set in the North American South East. The title story "Of the People" is about the small town angst of a mayor's wife, Charlotte Spencer. Charlotte is driven to drink and numerous embarrassing moments ensue for her politically conscious husband Mayor Everett Spencer who has his sights set on the governor's mansion. But there may not be any mansion in Everett's future if his wife doesn't keep her mouth shut. Their autistic son and two other children try to co-exist in this nightmare of political tightrope walking and the chaotic free thinking and carelessness of their mother. The other stories in this collection cover just about every walk of life imaginable--nuns, Vietnam War veterans, car thieves, insanely jealous husbands, and a sweet old aunt who keeps her severed leg in the deep freezer.
