Description:Excerpt from Three Lectures on Subjects Connected With the Practice of Education: Delivered in the University of Cambridge in the Easter Term, 1882 The three lectures contained in this volume were delivered by their authors at the request of the Teachers Training Syndicate. The University of Cambridge determined about four years ago to institute lectures on and to hold examinations in the History, Theory and Practice of Education. For the first two years, complete courses of lectures son the Practice of Education were delivered by Mr J. G. Fitch, and Canon Daniel. After this, it seemed to the Syndicate better to revert to a plan originally proposed, and to ask distinguished teachers to deliver single lectures on subjects with which they were specially familiar. The lectures here presented excited much interest and attention when they were first heard in the University. It has been thought that their publication will make them accessible to a wider circle, and may help to stimulate the movement towards the systematic training of teachers, which is every day assuming larger proportions.
