The Diary of William Reynolds, 1841

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (30627 ratings)
Description:Preface: "This 1841 diary was written during a trip started a month after William had been admitted to the bar. He made the journey in the hope of finding a future home since he wrote, 'the legal profession was well filled in Meadeville.' Partly because it reflects the uninhibited impressions of a twenty-one-year-old youth, the diary is quite interesting. Reynolds describes many places, especially scenic wonders, monuments, cities and towns, transportation systems, and the quality of life among slaves. There is dry humor, a bit of sarcasm, and a genuine appreciation of beauty. The 3" x 5" leather-bound diary also includes a map of the United States by H.S. Tanner, indicating the route Reynolds travelled, and a number of pen-and-ink sketches. At the end there is a list of daily expenses. The total cost of the journey was about $250 - a small amount by today's prices. The spelling and punctuation of the original have been preserved."We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
