Description:Abaneri is well known among the art historians and scholars for its magnificent art and architecture. Thus the temple of Harshatmata, originally dedicated to Vishnu, is in a ruined condition but it represents the haunting pristine glory of early Pratihara period (8-9 century AD). Since the discovery, it was referenced in several books and articles in a very sporadic manner except in the Encyclopaedia of Indian temple architecture. Now the time has come for a reappraisal of the site and a detailed study of its art and architecture in a holistic fashion for the benefit of readers and scholars.
