Description:Anybody who knows Veronica Mars shouldn't be surprised that she has a list of favorite authors and at the top you'll find the historian Baynard Thorndyke. So, when his alma mater, Ansen College, sponsors a seminar honoring his centennial, she takes a break from her studies at Hearst College to travel to Ansen and "see a part of the country she's never seen before." Unfortunately, she finds the seminar is, in the words of another spectator, simply a chance for some "glory hound" professors to "shine in the spotlight." Relief does come, however, from the contributions from an Ansen freshman named Wendell Foster (Although Veronica, like the other spectators has to wonder why Wendell has to speak from the floor, instead of being up on the podium?). Later, during lunch, Foster meets with Veronica and requests her services as a private investigator. Specifically, he wants to know, "What the hell is happening at Ansen College?" As he tells Veronica, he has been "on the outs" with the other freshmen "literally from day one." On that first day, over his protests, he was practically arm twisted into joining a shirts/skins game . Then, after his poor performance, the others in the game turn their backs on him and walk off. Two days later, he is getting an orange drink from the vending machine in his dorm and, while the year is 2007, the machines dispense beverages in paper cups instead of bottles or cans. "Imagine my revulsion," he says "when I remove my cup from the machine and find a dead cockroach floating in my drink." For the first week, except for buzz about a dorm narc who is "turning everybody in," the freshmen are preoccupied with their own affairs. Then, on the eighth day, Wendell takes a look at his girl friend Tiffany's photo on the shelf above his desk as he leaves for class. When he returns at noon, he finds someone has removed her picture from the shelf and has left it down on the desk surface. Now, another freshman named Dunstan performed so well at the shirts/skins game that he has become Mr. Popular, especially since he drives a Jaguar and is good for rounds at the campus bar. After the game, Wendell doesn't see Dunstan until the morning after someone touched Tiffany's photo, when he faces Dunstan outside his room as he is leaving for class. At that time, Dunstan laments that, despite his financial advantages, he has reached his freshman year of college and he's never had a date. It's obvious to Wendell that he was the intruder in his room and is probably the narc who has the rest of the freshmen worried. Wendell ignores Dunstan's challenge to a fight, but the antagonism between them grows. Wendell turns to both his Dorm Proctor and the Dean of Students for help. But his Dorm Proctor does nothing while the Dean of Students makes a show of thanking him in front of other freshmen for "services to the school" so they'll think he's the narc, taking the heat off Dunstan. Veronica agrees to probe the circumstances Wendell faces and learns of a curious incident from the previous year involving two roommates: one left Ansen in the middle of the semester, the other missed two finals since he was "passed out drunk." Yet both made the Dean's List. Could they have been narcs and their place on the Dean's List a prearranged payment? That night, as Wendell studies in the library, Dunstan and four of his associates wait outside to "make a man out of him" when he leaves the building. Despite this open declaration of violence the other students turn their backs. The Dorm Proctor and the Dean of Students have refused to intervene. Campus security consists of one man who patrols the campus in a Volvo and he leaves at Nine PM. It is now 9:30.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
